The Grinch is a famously exhausting role that requires strength, stamina and boundless energy all while performing inside a heavy, furry bearlike costume. To avoid sweating buckets at each performance, a former Grinch actor recommended Polec ask for ice packs to wear inside his costume at each show. At 14, Polec was a lacrosse athlete with plans to play high school and college sports and maybe become a doctor or lawyer someday. Then one day he suffered serious head trauma in a bicycle crash that forced him to give up contact sports. Instead, he channeled his energy into high school choir, where he excelled. At the University of Rochester, he started out studying pre-med, but got bored and switched over to the music program. He was one of 15 finalists chosen from a pool of entrants from 29 countries.
