Daniel Gritzer
Food Writer & Editor
I am an award-winning food writer, editor, and recipe developer. I am currently the Editorial Director of Serious Eats, and previously served as the Culinary Director there. Before that, I was a food editor at Food & Wine and a writer and reporter for the dining section at Time Out New York. I have won multiple awards in my career and have helped shepherd Serious Eats through different eras of its existence while always keeping the brand’s quality, depth, and uniqueness intact. I have overseen digital issues, special print issues, and countless packages, individual articles, and recipes.
I am known for my thoughtful and rigorous approach to food and cooking that blends a deep understanding of technique, food science, and empirical testing with deep respect for culture and history. I know how to balance the subjective side of taste with the more concrete science of cooking—and I take both seriously. I also know how to communicate complex technical ideas in a way that’s easy to understand and fun to read. I bring a tremendous amount of knowledge and authority as both a culinary expert, reporter and journalist, and brand leader and manager to my work.
Before I became a writer and editor, I cooked in a number of New York City restaurants, with a focus on American, Italian, and French cuisines. I also spent a year working on organic farms in Europe—harvesting almonds and Padrón peppers in Spain, making charcuterie in France, and shepherding sheep in Italy.
